Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 1, 2026  ·  Last updated: July 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Physical app ("Physical," "the app," "we," "us") handles your information. Physical is a fitness app built around the 2018 U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines (HHS). It helps you track your weekly aerobic and strength activity against personalized targets.

The short version: Physical does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything the app stores stays on your device. There are no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking.

Information we process and where it stays

Physical works entirely on your device. The following information is used only on your iPhone (and paired Apple Watch) and is never sent to us or to anyone else:

Health and fitness data (Apple Health)

With your permission, Physical reads workouts and heart-rate data from Apple Health, and writes the strength and aerobic workouts you log back to Apple Health. This data is used solely to calculate your progress toward your activity goals and to display intensity zones during a workout.

Health data is provided through Apple's HealthKit framework, stays on your device, and is governed by Apple's privacy protections. Physical does not transmit your Health data off the device, and we never receive it. You can grant or revoke this access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Physical, or within Apple Health.

Location during outdoor workouts (optional)

If you start an outdoor workout on your Apple Watch (such as a run, walk, bike, or hike) and grant location access, Physical records the GPS route for that workout so it can be shown as a map in Apple Fitness and Apple Health. Location is used only while a workout is active, using while-in-use access, and the route is written directly to that workout in Apple Health. Physical does not transmit your location off the device, and we never receive it. You can grant or revoke this access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Your profile

The profile you enter, such as date of birth/age, biological sex, weight, height, pregnancy or postpartum status, and resting heart rate, is used to determine which guideline targets apply to you. This information is stored on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, backed up to your iCloud account as described below; it is never sent to us.

Saved templates and profile backup (iCloud, optional)

If your device is signed into iCloud, Physical backs up your saved strength templates and your profile information to your iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage. This lets your templates and profile survive deleting and reinstalling the app, and keeps them in sync across your other devices signed into the same iCloud account.

This backup is stored in your personal iCloud account and is accessible only to you; we do not receive, see, or have any access to it. It is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy protections. If you are signed out of iCloud, or have iCloud Drive turned off, this backup simply does not happen, and the app continues to work normally using only the copy stored on your device. You can manage what your device backs up to iCloud in Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

Calendar (optional)

If you turn on Calendar sync in Settings, Physical adds a calendar event for each workout you log, using write-only access to your calendar. The app cannot read your existing calendar events. This feature is off by default, you control it with a toggle, and you can revoke calendar access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.

Notifications (optional)

If you turn on the Weekly reminder in Settings, Physical schedules a local notification on your device to nudge you about your weekly progress. Physical can also show an optional "workout counted" notification when a workout you logged in another app is saved to Apple Health and counts toward your weekly goals. Both are generated entirely on your device from your own Health data; no information is sent to us or any third party. You can turn each off with its toggle in Settings, or disable them all in Settings → Notifications → Physical.

Exporting your data (optional)

You can export your logged workouts to a CSV file from Settings. The file is created on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet, where you choose what happens to it (save it to Files, email it to yourself, and so on). Physical does not upload it anywhere; where it goes from there is entirely your choice.

Information we do not collect

To be explicit, Physical does not:

Because Physical does not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to store, disclose, or sell.

Subscriptions and purchases

Physical offers a free 7-day trial, after which you can continue with an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription, or unlock full access for life with a single purchase. All subscriptions and purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We never see or receive your payment details, billing information, or Apple Account identity; Apple processes the transaction and tells the app only your current entitlement (which plan, if any, and whether it is active). Your use of the App Store, including managing or cancelling a subscription, is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

How your information is protected

Your data never leaves your device through Physical, which removes the risks that come with transmitting or storing data on remote servers. On-device data is protected by iOS's built-in security and the device passcode/biometrics you set. Health data receives the additional protections Apple applies to HealthKit.

Data retention and deletion

Because your information is stored only on your device, you remain in control of it at all times:

Your privacy rights

Even though we do not collect your data, we want you to know your rights.

GDPR (European Economic Area, UK)

If you are in the EEA or UK, the GDPR gives you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing. Physical processes the data described above locally on your device and does not transmit it to us, so we do not hold any personal data about you to act on. Because no data is collected or transferred off your device, there is no international data transfer and no profiling or automated decision-making by us. You can exercise full control directly on your device using the iOS settings described above. If you have questions, contact us at the address below.

CCPA/CPRA (California)

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. Physical does not collect, sell, or share personal information, and we do not process it off your device. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right. You can contact us with any questions using the details below.

Children's privacy

Physical does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is not directed at children under 13, and because no data is transmitted or collected by us, no personal information about children is gathered.

Apple's role

Physical relies on Apple frameworks (HealthKit, EventKit, Core Location, and the notification system) and the App Store. Your use of Apple Health, Apple Calendar, iCloud, and other Apple services is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the app or to legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and include the updated policy in a new version of the app.
